You’ve liked your colleague’s Facebook page and suddenly your Facebook News feed is filled with updates from the page. No problem you think, I’ll just hide the page and no one will be the wiser. When you click the X next to the post you realize…
The option to Hide all posts from pages is gone!
Update September 8, 2011: The option to Hide all posts from pages is back!
Facebook has chosen to remove this option from the menu for page postings in the news feed. Your choices have been reduced to Hide this post or Report post or spam.
Selecting Hide the post replaces the post with the Post hidden from your News Feed and two to three choices:
- Undo – Restores the post
- Hide all by – This shows if the post was generated by a posting app – use caution with this one as any other pages using this app will also be blocked. ← Reinstated Hide all by page
- Unlike Page – The final solution
What can you do to clear your news feed of page clutter?
- Create a List
One workaround is to create a list with the pages/people you want to see on your news feed. See Rick’s Tip on creating lists. Then go to your News Feed and click the Most recent to access the drop-down menu and select the new list.
- Let Facebook Choose
Keep hiding the pages post by post and select from the Most recent drop-down menu More options. In the Edit Your New Feed Settings box set Show posts from: to Friends and pages you interact with most.
- Let Facebook know you want the Hide this post control back for pages:

Score one for users! Facebook listened to our complaints and brought back the Hide all posts from pages option.
Side note: The option to hide a friend is still available, follow the directions above for hiding a page post and you will able access Hide all by your friend.

If you are fed up of all the fan page stories showing in your newsfeed, there’s an easier way to hide then all in one go. Just install the free fb purity browser extension and select the hide fan page stories option. It has lots of other neat options for hiding other story types that you don’t want cluttering up your newsfeed too. It works like magic, you can get it here if interested: http://fbpurity.com

That is a great tip. I followed the link and looked over the purity browser extension features. I really liked the idea of the one column Timeline. The two column layout hasn’t been my favorite. Of course being able to filter out the “noise” on the news feed would be nice too. I will have to give a try.
