Yesterday I learned that Facebook has shut down the Apps Directory and now Facebook is sharing your apps with your friends. In attempt to make apps more social, FB now has all my friends and the apps they use listed when I click on Apps menu item in my personal Home page.
Is the app you developed for your custom Facebook page secure? I was surprised yesterday to find that all my apps, including Developer apps for custom Facebook pages were being shared to my friends. My App Secret code wasn’t a secret any more! I guess that was a glitch in the new system as today my apps seem to be secure.
For business or personal reasons you may not want everyone knowing what apps you are using. Is it their business that you are conspiring to destroy social media by running the dreaded Farmville app? Let me show you how to adjust your privacy settings to make your apps list private watch the video or follow the step by step how to instructions below:
- Go to Account in the upper left menu and select Privacy Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Click the Edit your settings link located in under Apps and Websites in the lower left.
- Select Customize in the Games and app activity dropdown menu.
- In the Custom Privacy Box select Only Me in the dropdown menu and click the Save Setting button.
Then you can safely go back trying running your farm in privacy.
Note: You may want to choose specific people and make a list of the people you want to share your games and app activity with see my post: Rick’s Tips: Using Facebook Lists to Target a Post to a Specific Group of Friends.
