Drinking a cup of coffee while social media networking is my favorite form of multitasking. So you won’t be surprised when I tell you that you could in the time it takes a drink of coffee you can increase your networking presence on LinkedIn. The key to my success is using the LinkedIn Sharing Bookmarklet to “speed share” interesting articles I find.
STEP 1. Install the LinkedIn Sharing Bookmarklet. Firefox, Chrome, and Safari users just drag the button to browser toolbar to install.
Internet Explorer users right click on the button and select add to favorites. Click yes if you see a Security Alert. Select Favorites Bar for Create In and click Add.
STEP 2. To share an article Click on Share on LinkedIn Bookmarklet in your browser toolbar.
STEP 3. Sign in to LinkedIn in the LinkedIn Share Window.
STEP 4. A preview of the excerpt of the article you are sharing is displayed. Scroll through the thumbnails to select one.
Post to updates is checked by default. You can add an comment in the text box, check the twitter box to send a tweet, and select who will see the post in their LinkedIn updates.
STEP 4. Two other sharing options are available: Post to group(s) or Send to individuals. Share the article to one, two or all three options.
To Send to individuals start typing the name or email address to open an drop down selector to choose the recipients from. Use the standard message or write your own.
STEP 5. To Post to a group starting the typing the name of the group. Choose the group from the drop down selector. To post to multiple groups repeat the process with each group.
STEP 7. Give your post a title in the Subject text box. Add a short description or impression of the article in the Details text box. Click the Share button to post the article.
STEP 8. Your article share posted in the LinkedIn group. Networking done – coffee cup half full!
Since I some coffee left, I have two bonus tips for you:
Bonus Tip – Editing or Deleting a Post:
You have fourteen minutes to edit your discussion. Click the See More link your post will appear on its own page and you can then click the Edit link to open the post to make changes.
To delete your post click More to open the drop down and click Delete.
Bonus Tip – To see all the group’s discussion postings select the Search tab.
