Artizon Digital was part of presentation team in a session at WordCamp PDX that focused on social media and web actions. Tim Fahndrich of Third River Marketing , Salem, Oregon based company specializing in direct response and internet marketing solutions, and I presented a brief overview of integrating Social Media into WordPress using automatic sharing updates and free social plugins that can do everything from creating a Facebook fan page to posting a Facebook like status update on a WordPress site. You’ll find the links to the tools we mentioned in the slider at the end of the post.
Erin Jo Richey, and Tantek Çelik led a discussion based section that introduced us to web actions. Erin is an user and experience and marketing strategy consultant based in Portland and Tantek is an independent technologist, writer and teacher from San Fransisco.
What are web actions? Erin and Tanteck have developed this term for the social buttons that take an action when we click . For example, the Facebook Like button. When you click it, it takes action and posts a Like to Facebook. WCPDX “Liked” the term web actions!
Their interest is in how, when and where we use them. Questioning the trend of sites filled with web action social media buttons, they ask: Are websites jammed with social media buttons and share widgets, dubbed the “NASCAR effect”, really user friendly or it is just confusing?
Erin has labeled this graphic, “Button Slut – n. A blogger or website owner who adorns his or her site with a large number of buttons or badges.”
They are taking it to the “streets” asking questions as they encounter groups of user such as WordCamp PDX, looking for answers to providing a clean, optimal user web action sharing experience. To learn more about web actions read Erin’s article, Button Sluts and Web Actions, and follow Tanteck’s #webactions on Twitter and at tantek.com.

Tim’s final note is good advice to all!
Remember each social network’s communication flow is unique. Posting six times a day to your Facebook page could be seen as “spam” to your fans, while that many posts is just a drop in the bucket at Twitter. Connect with your fans each network in a way that builds relationships.
